A Game Jam is essentially a hackathon for video games. It is a gathering of people for the purpose of planning, designing, and developing games within a short period of time. The goal is to foster collaboration, creativity, and productivity amongst participants to help encourage creative thinking resulting in games that can be turned into commercial success. Participants rapidly prototype games and make use of new ideas to help inspire and build games from start to finish.

The Africacomicade Gamathon 2020 is scheduled to hold between Monday, 24th August to Sunday, 30th August Check out the timeline page on our website for more info.

The game jam would be hosted on itch.io so you can submit your games after registering on itch.io. Make sure you submit before the end of the Game Jam! Late submissions are not accepted.

Anyone can participate in a Game Jam. Usually, participants are made up of game developers, animators, level designers, artists, gamers , testers , and more. Anyone who wants to learn how to make a game is also welcome. You can learn many new skills and support your team by contributing ideas, playtesting, and giving moral support.

The theme is announced a day before the game jam starts. Be sure to check out the theme announcement video when it drops!

No. That would be the same as cheating. You can only start working on your game once the jam has started.

A team of judges carefully chosen with experience in the games industry would be collaborating with the Africacomicade organizing team to select winners in the different categories. Asides then, 20% of the vote would come form the public , who would upvote uploaded games . 20% because we don’t just want people with media coverage to outsmart actual creative content. We will definitely factor in how well you use the theme in our decision.

We welcome both! Both teams and individuals are allowed to enter.

Yes! You can absolutely use any of them..

You’re free to decide the type you wish to create. As long as it’s not a direct copycat of another game and follows the rules and incorporates the theme, we’re good. We do not want to restrict your creativity so go for anything you want.

We will be announcing the theme and other updates on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Email, Youtube, and Africacomicade Discord. Follow the accounts below!

Please fill out this complaint form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
