Brief

The journey of our Gamathon mascot, “Nexus,” began in early 2022 with the vision of embodying our organization’s commitment to the growth of the immersive & interactive media industry in Africa and community engagement. After extensive research, a female figure was chosen to symbolize inclusiveness, with the name “Nexus” highlighting our efforts to bring together all aspects of the creative fields during the Gamathon. The design process involved initial sketches, stakeholder feedback, and digital rendering, leading to the final approval of the recent Nexus design in July 2022. Launched at our annual Gamathon event in September 2022, Nexus quickly became a beloved symbol, featuring prominently in marketing materials, social media campaigns for the event.

As of June 2024, Nexus continues to play a pivotal role in our Gamathon branding. We are now focused on giving Nexus a fresh and contemporary makeover while preserving its core brand identity. That’s why we’re launching the 3D Mascot Modeling Contest, inviting the community to join us in reimagining Nexus. Selected designs will feature prominently in our social media campaigns leading up to this year’s Gamathon.

Eligibility

• • • Participants must register before participating.
    • Challenge is free and open to African artists only.
    • Individuals only. No team or studio is allowed.
    • Join Africacomicade discord server. Join here.
    • Follow us on all platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X).

Rules

• • • Entires must be original work.
    • Adhere to the key elements mentioned in the brief. You can as well be creative about them and make additions.

Terms

• • • By submitting your entry, you grant Africacomicade the right to use, display, and reproduce your submission for any promotional, marketing, or branding purposes, without further compensation.
    • Whenever possible, Africacomicade will credit the creator of the submission in any public display or publication of the work.
    • Africacomicade retains the right to use the submissions indefinitely, including but not limited to social media, websites, printed materials, and events.
    • Participation in the contest does not restrict you from using your submissions in personal portfolios, provided that such use does not conflict with the granted rights to Africacomicade.
    • Submissions must be original and created by the participant. Any plagiarized , (AI ) or previously published work will be disqualified.
    • By submitting your entry, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms and conditions.

Submission

• • • The challenge closes on July 21st at 23:59:59 GMT+1. No further entry will be permitted and no extension of date.
    • Selected mascots submission will be animated so submission should be in T/A-Pose/default pose and textured.
    • No multiple submissions
    • Mode/format of submission (3D file, a turntable view of the character in rendered view and texture files.)
